Educational Objectives
The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) is an undergraduate degree program, designed to cover a broader spectrum of commerce with core modules from accountancy, taxation and finance. The course focuses on inculcating acumen for accountancy. The objective of the course is to equip the students with domain knowledge of commerce and accounting principles applied to contemporary business practices. The curriculum of the B. COM. (Honours) degree course is rigorous and progressive, and prepares its graduates for careers in accountancy and finance as well as for other professional roles such as economic, business and security analysts.
The B. COM. (H) course structure has twenty-three core papers, two ability enhancement compulsory courses, twelve generic elective courses placed in the first four semesters, six skill enhancement courses placed in the third and fourth semesters, and twelve discipline-specific elective courses placed in the last two semesters, plus one open elective in the last semester. In all, thirty optional courses under three sets of course types (GE, SEC, and DSE) have been developed with the idea of encompassing all possible domains of knowledge and skills and facilitating interface with various sections of society so that a student can have a wide choice of courses to have a better life and to lead a meaningful and contented life. Keeping in view the needs of the Commerce students, the Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECCs) have been designed in a manner that provides relevant knowledge and skills.
